Teen Read Week Trivia Question #1

Posted on October 16th, 2006 in Trivia by glattml

Why can’t J.K. Rowling or Anthony Horowitz win the Newbery Award for one of their books?

To try to win, click on “Comments?” Be sure to include your name and team with your answer. Every Chiddix Charger who sends in the right answer gets his/her name in a hat to win a Freshens prize package.

I have set the comments so that I will collect them first and publish them after our deadline of 6:00 p.m. That way, you really have to find the answer yourself.

Good luck!

The harry potter books and the Alex Rider books haven’t ended, they are still going on, so, I don’t think a newberry award can be given to an unfinished story.

Good guess, but not quite. I’m going to leave the question running until someone gets it right.

They can’t win because they are not American authors and the Newberry Award is awarded throught the American Library Association.

Close enough, Alyssa. It’s not exactly that the authors aren’t American, but that their books are published somewhere else (i.e England) first.

YOU WIN!!!!! Come to the IMC for your prize package!

Many groups don’t like the ideas of these novels, such as witchcraft and wizardry, and think it’s against their beliefs and believe kids shouldn’t be reading them. These books are controversial and they don’t give awards to controversial books.
